Introduction

Institute of Ecological and Sustainable Development, as part of the Key Research Institute of Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development, was built in 2010. The institute is mainly based on three first-level discipline doctoral and post-doctoral mobile stations of geography, ecology, applied economics. The primary aim is the ecological protection and sustainable development of the Yellow River Watershed. And the institute is committed to adapt to the need of the national major strategic of ecological protection and restoration, protection and utilization of water resources and regional sustainable development and try to provide scientific research for national, regional top design and data base and provide science and technology as well as science evaluation.

Institute members have published more than 10 monographs in a varied of fields such asEcological Environment and Yellow River Civilization, Study on Low-Carbon City: Models and Methods, Ecological Risk Assessment and Management of Typical Regional Disasters, Research on the Development Mechanism of Three City Clusters along the Yellow River, Study on the Develop of Tourism Resources—A Case Study of Henan Province. In addition,the team has published more than 100 high-quality papers in national and international academic journals, includingJournal of Hydrology, Journal of Cleaner Production, Habitat International, Ecological Indicators, Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Journal of Plant Ecology,Acta Geographica Sinica, Geographical Research, Scientia Geographica Sinica, Acta Ecologica Sinica, Acta Scientiae Circumstantiae, Human Geography and so on. These research results provide important supports for the construction of geography, ecology and other disciplines in theHenan University, and also provide important theoretical basis for the ecology and sustainable development of the Yellow River Basin.
